Mrs. Willa Mae "Betty" Butler Bouchell, age 90, of Williamson, passed away April 30, 2024. She was born in Richmond Hill, GA, the oldest of 6 children born to the late Ellis Layton Butler and Ruby Gay Butler. In her younger years, Mrs. Bouchell was very athletic and was named captain of her high school basketball team. After graduation, she met and married John Bouchell who was serving in the US Air Force. They traveled the world, living wherever he was stationed. After retiring from the military, the Bouchells moved to Griffin where she opened The Cake Box bakery. Mrs. Bouchell was known for her beautifully decorated cakes and delicious homemade candy. Wanting to learn more about baking, she traveled to Chicago and took classes from the famous Wilton School. Eventually, she sold the bakery but continued to make cakes and candies from her home.
Mrs. Bouchell was very creative. She made artificial flowers and purses. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed clothes for her own children, and made baby blankets and drapes for her home.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John William Bouchell, Sr., great-granddaughter, Marie Ussery, sisters, JoAnn and Helen and a brother, Edward.
She is survived by her children: Dian Pitts of Williamson, Karen Bouchell Keen of Thomaston and John William Bouchell, Jr. (Amy) of Pompano Beach, FL; grandchildren: Chris (Jessica), Jodi, Sarah, Elizabeth, Michelle and Kyle; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with her grandson, Pastor Chris Pitts officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.
