Betty Huggins

Mrs. Betty Joyce Phillips Huggins, age 94, of Hayesville, North Carolina, formerly of Williamson, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025. She was born and raised in Atlanta and Palmetto, Georgia, the daughter of the late Zed Phillips and Daisy Ruth Dukes Phillips. Raised during the Great Depression, Betty developed a strong work ethic, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to caring for others.

Betty spent many years working for the telephone company and later served as an administrative assistant for the Federal Government at Fort Gillem and Fort McPherson. She took great pride in her work and was known for her dedication, reliability, and professionalism.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Griffin Ward, Betty's faith was central to her life. She faithfully served in numerous callings, including seminary teacher, gospel doctrine teacher, Primary president, visiting teacher, and temple worker. She found great joy in temple and mission work, as well as sewing, cooking, gardening, and expressing her creativity as a talented artist. Above all, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and caregiver who took exceptional care of her family.

Betty was married for more than 40 years to William Ray Boyd, with whom she raised five children. Later in life, she found love again and married Austin "Red" Huggins, Jr., who preceded her in death eight years ago.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Horace Phillips, Luther Phillips, David Phillips, Bob Phillips, Patsy Phillips, and Homer Phillips.

She is survived by her children: William "Bill" Boyd (Carlene), Judy Barch Bemis (Ron), James "Jim" Boyd (Pam), Wayne Boyd (Heloisa), and Chris Boyd (Ilona); her brother, Frank Phillips; 18 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
