Mr. Billy Wayne Avery, age 89, of Daphne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on February 27, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Bill LOVED people.
Billy grew up in Atlanta and attended Fulton High School, where he was outstanding in football. He had a 39 ½ year career with Delta Air Lines. He retired as General Foreman in Overhaul. He had a strong work ethic and was respected by his co-workers and friends.
Billy lived in Concord, Georgia, for many years and was very involved in his community. He proudly served as a Pike County Commissioner from January 2003 to May 2006, dedicating his time and efforts to improving the county.
He was an extraordinarily devoted Mason and was an active member of Montgomery Lodge #31 in Zebulon, where he served twice as Master and gained Emeritus status. Bill served as Deputy Grand Master of the 6th district. When he moved to Daphne Alabama, he continued his commitment to service by obtaining dual membership and remained active at Robertsdale Masonic Lodge #821, where he also served as Master.
Billy enjoyed trips to Biloxi Mississippi, where he especially loved playing poker, which he was very good at. The home in Daphne allowed him to generously share a variety of pecans and fruit with family, friends and community. More than anything, Billy was devoted to his family and cherished the time spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Monroe Avery, mother, Frances Ola V. Avery, his wife, Alice Faye Avery, his step-mother, Annie Mae Avery, who raised him, daughter, Melanie Starr Avery, step-son, Ruston Cooper, sisters, Ola Mae Dover and Jean Barnett and a brother, John "Buddy" Avery.
