Mr. Burleigh "B. R." Randolph Gayton, age 89, of Covington, passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2022. He was born in Ackworth, GA, son of the late Albert Gayton and Pauline Dowda Gayton. B. R. was a veteran of the United States Army. After being discharged from the military, he worked in sheet metal for Local #85, and then in civil service at Fort McPherson in Atlanta for 17 years before retiring. B. R. enjoyed fishing, golfing, singing, and traveling overseas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ken Gayton and his brothers, Lloyd "Bud" Gayton and Charles Gayton.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife: Irene Chong Gayton; daughter and son-in-law: Deborah and Steve Counter; grandchildren: Garrett Gayton, Shane Jackson and wife Kristine, and Cody Counter; great-grandchildren: Landon Gayton, Cammy Jackson and Cruz Jackson; foster children and their spouses: Julio and Amalia Hernandez, Stephanie and Gerald Finnie and Gene and Maria Stolp, Jon and JoJo Tan; step-children and their spouses: Josephine Clare and Dr. C. S. Teoh, Genevieve Esther and Wellson Liew, Ronnie Roland and Caroline Francis, and Keith Burdette; 17 additional grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The loving wife, Irene Chong Gayton, would like to thank doctors, nurses and staff of Piedmont-Newton Hospital, Dr. Lynnwood Cleveland and nurses, Dr. King, nurses and staff of Abbey's Hospice, Saint Augustine's Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Roberto A. Orellana, the US Army Honor Guard, relatives, dear friends near and far, family in Malaysia, and Moody-Daniel Funeral Home for their wonderful care, love and support during our difficult time.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 7, at 2 p.m., in Moody Memorial Gardens.
