Dorothy Jane Mincey, known as Dot, age 82, passed away at her home on April 11, 2022.
She leaves behind her son, Michael Mincey, her son-in-law and daughter, Kevin and Debbie Oglesby, her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Michelle Mincey, her grandsons, Levi Mincey, Kraig Mincey, Ryan Mincey, Caleb Mincey, and Jordan Oglesby, and her granddaughter, Rachel Oglesby, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Randy and Carol Mincey, Steve and Ruby Mincey, and Tom and Debbie Glaze, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Mincey, of 55 years, both of her parents, her brothers and sisters.
Dot was born on March 20, 1940 to Austin and Clara Huggins in Atlanta, GA. She was the youngest of 5 children. She graduated Southwest High in Fulton County. Dot married Larry Mincey, on October 15, 1959. She worked as a secretary for Bell South in Atlanta. She and Larry had 3 children before moving to Pike County in 1972. Dot was a resident of Pike County for the past 49 years. She worked for the GA Dept. of Labor in Griffin for 24 years before she retired.
Dot loved her family and her community. She cared for and helped so many people in her lifetime. She never wanted the spotlight but quietly took care of the needs of those around her. She loved to cook and feed anyone who sat at her table. She fed every stray animal that came to her house. She enjoyed gardening and always wanted to cut her own grass.
The family would like to thank Pike Manor who did an outstanding job caring for Mom and a special thank you to Miss Loretta, Shana, Brittany, Krista, and Kayla. She so loved having all of you there. We would also like to thank Brightmoor Hospice Care Team for all the medical and emotional assistance, and a special thank you to Christy and Jess. You all made it possible to keep Mom at home, which was where she wanted to be.
Visitation for friends and family will be Saturday, April 16, 2022, from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Chapel service will be at 3:00 pm with Rev. Al Shackelford officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.
