Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Thomas Rachels, age 80, of Meansville, passed away February 23, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in North Augusta, SC, daughter of the late Eli Thomas and Josie Towns Thomas. Mrs. Rachels was a kindergarten teacher at Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Jonesboro for many years. She was a strong Christian woman who touched and inspired everyone who knew her. She was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Thomaston. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafts. Mrs. Rachels was a wonderful pianist and an amazing cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Hilda Avant and her brother, Edison Thomas.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years: Virlon Rachels; children: Regena Williams (Kerry), Susan Henderson, and Virlon "Rusty" Rachels (Cathy); she was Memoma to everyone and especially to her grandchildren: Joshua (Sarah), Ryan (Stephanie), Rachel, Paul, Jon, Jessica (Derek), Tyler (Michelle), and Jenna (Jarrett); great-grandchildren: Ryann, Jarrett, Anna, Jacob, Kane (Ramey), Kevin, Hailey, Jazmine, Leighanna Grace, Brighton, Haddon, Zeke, Zade, and August; sisters: Nora Moon and Estelle Dugger; brother: Walter "Tony" (Faye) Thomas; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 26, 4 p.m., in Mt. View Baptist Church, 2569 Jeff Davis Road, Thomaston. Pastor Ryan Christopher, Rev. Randall Mims, and her great-grandson Jarrett Fletcher will officiate. Burial will follow in Fincher Memorial Cemetery.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the church.
Those wishing to make donations in memory of Mrs. Rachels may do so to Brightmoor Hospice.
