Emma Smoot-Mayfield

Ms. Emma Jane Archer Smoot-Mayfield, age 81, of Molena, passed away January 28, 2024.  She was born in Forsyth, daughter of the late Carl Dalton Archer and Lou Venie Rampley Archer.  Ms. Emma graduated from Pike County High School in 1960. She worked at Dundee Mills, Springs Industry, Signal and American Mills in Griffin for many years.  She enjoyed cooking and flower gardening. Ms. Emma was a member of Rehoboth Church of the Nazarene in Molena.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Smoot and Tommy Mayfield, daughter, Deanne Smoot, step-son, David Mayfield, and brothers and sisters, Clyde D. Archer, Mary Lou Bennett, Annie Bell Caldwell, JohnThomas Archer, Christine Randolph and Sandy Nicholson.

She is survived by her grandsons: Josh Melton and Christopher Melton; brothers: Grady Archer and George Archer; step-daughter: Melissa Cato (Tim) and their daughter: Jessica Cato; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, January 30, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Caldwell officiating.
