Hazel Johnson

Mrs. Hazel L. Hunsperger Johnson, age 79, of Zebulon, passed away peacefully June 26, 2025, at her home.  Hazel grew up in Missouri, daughter of the late Norval Hunsperger and the late Dowan Day Hunsperger.  After she and Bill were married, they moved to Riverdale. She had earned her cosmetology license in Missouri and worked as a hairdresser at The Mane Event in Jonesboro. Hazel was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. She was a long-time member of Riverdale Assembly of God Church. Hazel was very independent and enjoyed word search puzzles, watching TV, especially detective shows and The Andy Griffith Show.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph William "Bill" Johnson, two brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by her daughters: Shelly Smiley (Chuck) and Stacy Gillis (Jerry); grandchildren: Cameron Smiley (Mattie), Cassie Waldrop (Bailey), Jared Gillis and Ethan Gillis; great-grandchildren: Easton and Emmett; many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 2 p.m., in Moody Memorial Gardens.
