“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” -Psalm 34:18
JJ spent his early years in Brunswick, Georgia, before moving to Zebulon in the sixth grade. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to music, and playing golf and basketball. JJ spent his favorite days outdoors with his friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known as the class clown. He loved making people laugh and could always bring a smile to those around him. Above all, his family was the most important part of his life. JJ looked up and wanted to be just like his Daddy and adored his Mama. He protected his sister in any way he could. He loved and is loved immensely.
He is survived by his parents: Jake and Catie Smith; sister: Carolina Marie Smith; grandparents; Allen Gordon Smith, Amy Elizabeth Smith, Thomas Roger Ziglar and Rhonda Kay Ziglar; great-grandparents: Catherine Gilmore, Tom and Helen Smith; his aunts and an uncle: Amanda Ziglar, Melissa LeGrear, and Jonathan Gordon Smith; aunt: Faith Jackson; many cousins and friends.
A service to celebrate J. J.’s life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, 12:00 p.m., at Christ Chapel Church, 68 Old Zebulon Road, Zebulon. Pastor Billy Smith will officiate.
