Jerry Mack Ward

Jerry Mack Ward, 79, was born November 23, 1946, in Geneva County, Alabama, to William and Nettie Ward. He peacefully stepped into eternity on September 13, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

One of twelve children, Jerry came from humble beginnings. His family had very little, and those early years helped shape his values of hard work, responsibility, and providing for his family.

Jerry served his country for 21 years in the United States Army, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. A Vietnam veteran, he was awarded the Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was also a paratrooper and Jumpmaster, an accomplishment that remained a source of pride throughout his life.

Following his military career, Jerry worked in the corporate security and information technology industries as a project manager.

Jerry shared 58 years of marriage with his wife, Virginia. Together they raised two sons, Mack (Heidi) and William (Monica), and their family grew to include five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Both sons followed their father’s example by making careers of military service and becoming paratroopers themselves, something that made Jerry especially proud.

Jerry enjoyed fishing, loved his animals, and was an excellent gardener. His gardens routinely produced more food than his family and extended family could eat, and he freely shared what he grew with those around him.

Jerry was a good man of strong integrity. He came from very little and built a good life through hard work, service, and responsibility. He loved his family and took pride in providing for them. He did not need to be made larger than life to be remembered well. His legacy lives in the family he raised, the generations that followed him, and the values he leaves behind.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters.

He is survived by his wife, his two sons, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and three sisters.

Friends may visit the family on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with his son, Major Mack Ward Pastor Rick Rose officiating.
