Joan Smallwood

Mrs. Joan Stephens Smallwood, age 78, of Griffin, passed away September 16, 2021.  She was born in Hampton, daughter of the late Horace Lee Stephens and Beatrice Virden Stephens. Joan was an Insurance Agent at Liberty National Life Insurance for 25 years. After retiring from the insurance business, she worked at Lowes in Griffin.  Joan enjoyed cooking and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Elaine Stephens.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Barry and Cindy Smallwood of Zebulon; grandchildren and their spouses: John and Angela Smallwood of Monticello, Ryan and Chris Otero of Lithonia and Jonathan and Civility Bowling of Savannah; great-grandchildren: Ava Bowling, Alannah Bowling, Jacob Smallwood and Autumn Smallwood; brothers, a sister and their spouses: Larry, Art and Marian, Ronnie and Kay, and Cathy and Terry; many nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held at Griffin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jim Strickland will officiate.
