John Wesley Moody

John Wesley Moody, 90, of Georgia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 18, 2026, in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

John was born on April 28, 1936, to Charles and Beulah Moody. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, pastor, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ.

John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel.

John preached faithfully for nearly 70 years, sharing the love of Jesus Christ with countless people. His calling to preach was not simply his profession—it was his passion and the purpose to which he devoted his life.

At the time of his passing, John was serving as pastor of DeFoor Avenue Baptist Church in Atlanta. He loved to preach and, more than anything, loved to tell people about Jesus. Whether standing behind a pulpit or simply meeting someone in everyday life, John looked for opportunities to share his faith and point others toward Christ. His life was a testimony to his unwavering love for his Savior and his desire to see others know Him.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Eva Moody, his children, Johnette White (David), Steven Moody (Lorrie), and Marcia Colvin, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria Moody, his son, John Wesley Moody Jr., his granddaughter Tiffany Gokey, his parents, Charles and Beulah Moody, and his siblings, Isabel, Charles, Hudson, Gwen, Kate, Dwight, and Bobby.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Church at the Grove at 1050 Walnut Grove Pkwy, Walnut Grove, GA 30052. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, 2000 Marietta Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.

Friends may visit the family on Thursday, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the church.
