Marie Denton

Marie R. Denton (97) of Williamson, Ga., passed away on November 29, 2023. She is survived by her 6 children; Virgil William "Bill" Denton, III, David Allen Denton (Sandy), Lonnie Ray Denton (Sherry), Warren "Russell" Denton (Lynn), Rodney Dale Denton (Cindy), and Joy Denton Platé; her 8 grandchildren,  Tommy Denton (Tammy), Janie Leary (Eric), Jeff Denton, Ashley Denton, Christopher Denton, Melinda Denton, Dale Denton and Laura Alyssa Platé; and her 7 greatgrandchildren, Amanda Barton (Garrett), Brittany Denton, Jordan Denton, Alijah Denton, Joy Denton-Slaughter, Shawn Denton and Levi Denton and her brother-in-law, James Walker; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil William "V.W." Denton, Jr., parents, Lonzie and Lula Ray; siblings, Virgil Ray (Emma Lou), Vera Adams (Presley), Ellis "Buck" Ray (Lillian), Maudine Stallings (Roy), Barbara Ann Walker, son-in-law, Fredric Platé and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie was born on October 5, 1926, in Lake Wales, FL.  In 1936, her family moved to Georgia where she spent the remainder of her life. On June 10, 1945, she married the love of her life, V.W. Denton and they shared 55 wonderful years together before his passing.  She was a loving wife and mother, but her most cherished role and title was "Granny". She enjoyed reading, genealogy, making crafts and spoiling her children and grandchildren.  Marie's greatest joy was cooking and sharing a meal each Sunday with her family; laughing and sharing stories around the table. She will be missed by all.

A funeral service honoring the life of Marie Denton will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 11:00 A.M at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home, 10170 US 19, Zebulon, GA 30295.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 immediately preceding the service.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA 30349 at 2:00 P.M.
