Mary Edith Gooden

Edith Gooden, age 87 of Meansville passed away on August 30, 2026.

Edith was born on September 11, 1938, in Massey Alabama, daughter of the late William Warren Carter and Rosa Lee Buckelew Carter. She and her siblings grew up on a cotton farm in Alabama. She later spent most of her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her sweet tea. She also enjoyed crocheting and jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of Meansville Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Marion Gooden; sisters: Louise White and Ruth Lewis; and brother: Paul Carter

She is survived by her daughters: Terry Bailey (Larry) and Kelly Callaway (Chip); son: Joey Naramore (Toni); stepchildren: Danny Gooden (Amy) and Mark Gooden (Karen); 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother: Jackie Carter (Pat); and sister: Betty Jo Lawrimore.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday September 7th, 2026, at 2 P.M. at Meansville Baptist Church. Pastor Michel Bell will officiate. Friends may visit the family on Monday from 1-2 P.M. at the church.

A private entombment will be held in the Upson Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
