Shirley Ison

Mrs. Shirley Ann Hatchett Ison, age 85, of Griffin, passed away December 2, 2024, at her home.  She grew up in Concord, daughter of the late John Lee Hatchett, Sr. and Estelle Frances Fogarty Hatchett. Shirley attended Pike County Schools where she excelled at sports and was captain of the girls' basketball team. She earned her cosmetology license, became a beautician and owned and operated Shirley's Beauty Salon in Griffin for over 20 years. She loved to travel and had visited all 50 states. She enjoyed fishing, watching old westerns, and cross-country motorcycle riding with her husband, Jack.

Shirley was a very kind and generous lady. Her home was always open for anyone who needed help or a place to stay.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Jackson Ison, brothers, Gary Hatchett and Larry Hatchett, and sisters, Sarah Hammond, Helen Woodson and Mildred Carroll.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Terry and Terri Ison of Zebulon, Glenda Mercure of San Jose, CA and Jerry and Lisa Ison of East Point, FL; grandchildren and their spouses: Stephanie and Nick Clark, T. J. Ison, Jared and Vanetta Moss, Ryan and Blake Wright, Jordan and Laurie Mercure, Kaley and Dwayne Coulter and Andrew and Danielle Ison; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bo and Shea Hatchett, Billy Hatchett, and Jimmy and Darnell Hatchett all of Williamson; sister and brother-in-law: Jackie and Jimmy Cox of Griffin; many nieces and nephews; niece and caregiver: Dana Simmons, special friend and caregiver: Angela Conkle; and caregiver Sheila Massengale.

A service celebrating Shirley's life will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with her grandsons Jordan Mercure and Andrew Ison officiating.

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
