Sue Mccullough

Mrs. Lillie Sue Hill Purkey McCullough, age 86, of Williamson, GA passed away peacefully at her home on August 14, 2023.  Born in Heiberger, AL, she grew up in Perry and Hale Counties, the youngest daughter of the late Rev. W. B. Hill and Theo Moore Hill.  Sue attended Central Wesleyan College in SC.  She worked for the National Park Service as Assistant Deputy Director of the SE region prior to retiring from the GSA.

Sue was an avid reader and a member of Concord Baptist Church. Sue was a kind and gracious lady to everyone, dearly loved her family and would not allow anyone to be hungry in her presence.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, MSG Jim F. Purkey and Donald "Mac" McCullough, a sister, Miss Frances Hill, brothers, Gerald Hill, Ludie Hill and great-grandson, Wyatt R. Mezick.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Mike and Patricia Purkey; step-children and their spouses: Lori and Aaron Stewart, Mandy and David Anderson, and Ben McCullough; grandchildren: Michael Purkey Jr., Sean Purkey, Candace Purkey Mezick and husband Chaz; many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 1 p.m., in Moody Memorial Gardens in Zebulon, with Chaplain Tom Lee officiating.

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
