In Loving Memory of Virgil King Herndon

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Virgil King Herndon, who left this life surrounded by family on December 30, 2025, at the age of 71, at Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center in Atlanta, due to sudden complications from vascular disease. He was a treasured member of the Pike County community, well known and deeply loved by all, and he will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

Born on January 16, 1954, in Griffin, Georgia, Virgil was the youngest of six children born to Roger and Laura Herndon. He grew up in Williamson and attended Pike County High School. He worked in building maintenance for the Mortel Corporation before retiring from Georgia Pacific. However, Virgil was best known as the dependable electrician you could count on day or night, owning and operating C & H Electrical for more than 30 years, and lighting homes throughout the area with his personality and his skill with electricity.

Virgil was the beloved son, father, stepfather, grandfather, sibling, and friend to many. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for his family and friends enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Virgil was a pillar of the community, and many will keep mementos of him in their homes, with his handwriting on fuse boxes and hidden in their rafters. His unwavering support of his mother, Laura, and his dedication to his family and friends cannot be overstated.

Aside from his professional and family commitments, Virgil was a regular at Ruth's Restaurant every morning for coffee, where his presence will be deeply missed. A devoted Falcons and Braves supporter, he would have loved to see the score on Monday night when the Falcons defeated the Rams, and we are heartbroken he didn't get to watch that game. In addition to his love for family and sports, he touched many lives through his volunteer work with the Lions Club, coaching softball for the Pike County Recreation Department, and pulling chains for over 20 years for Pike County High School football. Virgil was widely recognized for his dedication to family and friends and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and service to the community. It's no exaggeration to say that no one ever had a bad word to say about him, and few can hope to match the legacy of humility, humor, and integrity that Virgil leaves with all of us.

Virgil is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Michele; son Donny (Lisa); stepchildren Alicia Mandin and Marc-Anthony Mandin (Christy); brother Lewis; grandchildren Holly Dunbar (Corey), Haley Blalock, Jacob Howard (Chasidy),Owen, Oliver, Eila, and Barrett Mandin, and Julia Howard; and great-grandchildren, Eli and Ellie Dunbar, Lane and Sadie Blalock; and Myles Howard, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Beatrice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Laura Herndon; brother Roger; sister and brother-in-law Gail and Jimmy Simmons; sisters Barbara Erlandson and Lorraine Boyd, and sister-in-law Barbara Jean Herndon.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home, where the service will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2 p.m., with Terrell Moody and Pastor James D. Wilson presiding.
