Virginia Oglesby

Mrs. Virginia "Jenny" Cynthia Smith Oglesby, age 88, of Concord, passed away April 3, 2022, at her home. She grew up in Concord in the Friendship Circle and Pedenville Road area, daughter of the late Joe Brown Smith and Sara Virginia Marshall Smith. Mrs. Oglesby earned her teaching degree from Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, and taught school for over 30 years, retiring from the Pike County School System. She was a member and past President of the Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Pike County Lions Club, a long-time member of Friendship Presbyterian Church and more recently a member of Molena Baptist Church.  Mrs. Oglesby was a founding member of the Pike County Outreach Center in Molena and served there faithfully for 20 years after her retirement from the school system. She was the care-taker of the family and enjoyed baking for them and her friends.

Mrs. Oglesby faithfully served Jesus her whole life and was eager to see him face-to-face to thank him for everything he did for her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Johnny Charles Oglesby, Sr.; son: Johnny Charles Oglesby, Jr.; grandsons: Patrick Childress and T. J. Fowler; brother: Wayne Marshall Smith; sister: Cornelia Jane Wynn; and former husband: Charles Edwin "Ed" Booker.

She is survived by her children: Cheryl Smith, Cindy McCloud (Mark), Stacey Booker, Stanley Booker (Sonja) and Angie Fowler; daughter-in-law: Debbie Booker; grandchildren: Chris Childress (Stephanie), Noah Smith, Marshall McCloud (Sarah Beth), Sam McCloud, Kayla Booker, Sarah Bates, Chase Gaddy, Gracie Booker, Jesse Booker, and Emma Booker; great-grandchildren: Kara, Christian, Ty, Mason, Virginia, Cody, Mary Allen, Cloey, Kaitlyn, Chrissy, Preston and Sadie; great-great-granddaughter: Hazel; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Thursday, April 7, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Jereme Chaney officiating.

Burial will follow in the Molena City Cemetery.
